If you are using either an open Wi-Fi network or a secured one you need to filter unwanted devices from it. MAC filtering feature has already been available on many routers but now we are going to tell you about how to use that feature on D-Link DSL-2730U (Old Version). This feature is very important if you have an open connection (Not Recommended), the modem allows you to setup MAC filtering in a very easy way. In DSL-2730U you have the option to either allow a specific set of devices or block them.

Step 1: Connect your modem either through LAN or WLAN.

Step 2: Now login to from your browser (Default username and password is admin. It has always been recommended to change the default username and password).

Step 3:  Now Go to Wireless >MAC filter.

Step 5: Now add the MAC address of different devices that you want to give/deny access to the Wi-Fi connection (See: How to find the MAC address of your PC, How to find MAC address of your Windows Phone, How to find MAC address of your android phone).

Securing you Wi-Fi network is very important and you can do it easily by adding a strong password to it. You can also disable the option to broadcast SSID this will help your Wi-Fi get undetected on unwanted devices. However, the option to not broadcast the SSID is not available on all the routers and to connect to the hidden wireless network you need to know both – The SSID and the password. Make sure you use an alpha numeric password while setting up the Wi-Fi network. Always use a secure DNS server such as OpenDNS or Google Public DNS this will help get out of harmful websites. There is also an option to filter certain IP addresses which will help you restrict bandwidth from a specific address.
