How to Change the Default Message Center Number on your Android Phone

Many service providers nowadays automatically provide the Message Center Number to your phone but if you go to any other state, then sometimes you have to change the Message Center Number according to that place or otherwise you will not be able to send or receive any messages. Earlier, feature phones do have the option to change the Message Center Number but in the current smart phones this option is not present as they can automatically detect the change in service provider. But there is also any an option to manually change the Message Center Number.

If you do not know which Message Service Center you have to choose, then you can call the Customer Care number of your service provider they will be able to tell you which Number you have to switch.

Changing the Default Message Service Center Number

  1. Go to your Phone app and dial *#*#4636*#*# on it.Testing window for *#*#4636*#*#
  2. A Testing Windows will be opened. We know many of you are familiar with it as you have the option to switch into WCDMA Only mode through it you can also switch to many other network modes from it.
  3. Now open Phone Information, this show you all the details of your Network i.e. IMEI, Signal Strength and many other important data.
  4. Then go to bottom of it, you will be able to see the SMSC Field in which you can enter your new Message Center Number. But before you enter a new number in it, remember to take a backup of the previous one. You can do it by pressing the Refresh button it will show you the current Message Center Number note down that number as it will useful if the new number doesn’t work or when you will be return again to your home network. After taking a note of the previous one you can now change it by entering the new number in the SMSC field after that you have to tap on the update button.Enter your new message service center number here

To try if the new Message Center Number is working or not, you can send a message to yourself or any other person. If you can see the Me ssage Delivered status (Or you can receive the message), then the new number is working for you.

Tip: Don’t change the Message Center Number unnecessarily if the existing number is working or you can end up not receiving any messages.
