The first company which announced its list of devices that will be getting Nougat update was- Moto. Moto G4 and G4 Plus were the first non-Google phones which got the Nougat update but currently they don’t have a timeline for remaining Moto phones which were eligible for the upgrade. The news of soak test of Nougat update on Moto X Play and other phones hit the internet earlier this year. But it seems that the older Moto phones are at the bottom of the Lenovo’s priority list for releasing the Nougat update. In the meanwhile, it seems all the developers from Moto and Lenovo are working on developing the source code for the new phones that are going to launch with Nougat out-of-the box.
It is disappointing to see such great devices not getting upgraded moreover most of them are currently running on the January security patch. We have asked Lenovo team on Twitter for providing the timeline of the Nougat update for the remaining devices but we are still waiting for a proper reply. Now when the launch of Android O is around the corner, Moto has failed to provide their existing phones with the last year’s upgrade. Now under the ownership of Lenovo moto mobility seems to have lost their commitment for the faster upgrades and security patches.
So when can you expect the Nougat Update for Your Phone?
If you got the Nougat Update this year then it would be a miracle because the roll out will happen by region and batches so, you can expect that the roll out will take at least a month to reach you. I have seen many users asking for the upgrade on twitter but they haven’t got any satisfactory answer from the moto team.
Want Immediate Nougat Update? Then Try a Custom ROM
For most of the phones, Nougat update is available through custom ROMs such as LineageOS, Resurrection Remix, AOSP Extended, Slim ROM, Paranoid Android etc. You can flash anyone of them and get the taste of the Nougat update and soon after the launch of Android O these custom ROMs will be the first to provide you the upgrade. So, if you find any of these custom ROM stable for your phone then you can stick to it as they provide more customization and flexibility. The latest security patches will keep your data secured.
At last let’s see how many of the recently launched moto phones will get Android O upgrade, we are not expecting the low end budget phone to be getting the update but let’s see how moto plays it.
